Paramedian osteoderm patterning has been used almost exclusively since 1985; however, in 2007 I argued that ornamentation tended to be homoplastic and that instead it is the lateral osteoderm morphology that has phylogenetic significance. Recent work by Jeff Martz and myself have been trying to determine differences and patterns in osteoderm morphology due to position in the carapace. Even more recently (at SVP last year) I argued that armor ornamentation is diagnostic for more inclusive clades rather than genera and/or species. There is still lots of work to do; however, many of the old diagnoses still stand (for now).

BTW...differences in ornamentation due to individual variation, ontogeny, and sexual dimorphism are not understood.Bill Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05941940882532354219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5519292617097628087.post-59811744511257803602009-02-17T19:59:00.000-07:002009-02-17T19:59:00.000-07:00Wait a second. I can think of a handfull of reasons why that wouldn't necessarily work--ontogeny, sexual dimorphism, individuality, locale populations of a single species...

How entrenched is this tenant?Zachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08692080707969333711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5519292617097628087.post-11097654157899677512009-02-15T16:22:00.000-07:002009-02-15T16:22:00.000-07:00Yes - when you are logged in and in the comment me...Yes - when you are logged in and in the comment menu of a specific post of your blog there is a dustbin symbol below each of the comments.Michael BWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12761074196100403445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5519292617097628087.post-86897517992861772352009-02-14T14:56:00.000-07:002009-02-14T14:56:00.000-07:00Does any one know how to delete comments like the ...Does any one know how to delete comments like the one above in Blogger?

Looks like spam.Bill Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05941940882532354219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5519292617097628087.post-46073796487651653122009-02-14T00:12:00.000-07:002009-02-14T00:12:00.000-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
