Unfortunately often the skulls are separated from the rest of the carcass and often disarticulate themselves. Thus to find the upper part of the skull and one half of the mandible is a good find.

Mike,

The photo looks scarier than the situation really was. Do you find that these skulls and skull fragments are often found isolated without any other postcrania or are there, indeed, other elements there or thereabouts, or does it simply depend where you are in the Chinle?Mark Wildmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17644970562043088893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5519292617097628087.post-54134074520401203022009-07-12T10:06:02.692-07:002009-07-12T10:06:02.692-07:00Yeah, you are probably correct. What I should hav...Yeah, you are probably correct. What I should have said is that phytosaurs are the most common fossils. However, if you consider isolated skull bone fragments and count the teeth as part of the skull thn my statement is correct. :)Bill Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05941940882532354219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5519292617097628087.post-46482806308340522802009-07-12T00:58:08.322-07:002009-07-12T00:58:08.322-07:00Hmm, I would say isolated phytosaur teeth and oste...Hmm, I would say isolated phytosaur teeth and osteoderms are much more common than phytosaur skulls.220myahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06403919493457640549noreply@blogger.com
